With how divisive and contentious social media’s gotten over the past several months, a lot of us are scrambling to get to the right side of history. Covid-19 controversies, a worldwide resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement, a largely-quarantined Pride month, readdressing our understanding of America’s history (many of us for the first time), and conflict with friends and family members over all of the above, to name some of the biggest players. With the chaos of the internet keeping everyone more connected than humans have ever been, now’s an excellent time to reflect on how we approach each other, so we can stay on that right side of history.
This is a free online semi-interactive video presentation by Travis Abshear intended to help with recognizing biases and detrimental patterns of thought in ourselves and others through the Theory of Approaches. Though current events may be used as examples, the presentation is not about what we think, but how we think it- this information is relevant for people of all races, genders, sexualities, and political identities. This webinar will address the nature of perspective, the definition of knowledge, the responsibilities that come with awareness, and the ways we approach each other. A PDF detailing the Theory of Approaches will be available for additional reading, along with links to further information and a hub for future presentations.
We have the tools we need to be the best people in the history of humanity! Now is our time to learn how to listen.
