Rainbow Mobile is proud to announce a new program for Teens! In conjunction with the Mobile Public Library, we are creating a new Teen Book Club that will engage and challenge young readers, ages 12 to 18 on a whole new level! This group is welcoming to all teens who are interested in being a part of an LGBTQ+ affirming atmosphere.
Beginning with a Meet and Greet on April 18, 2019, where Librarian Lynn Rainey will pass out special Book Club Care Kits, teens will have the opportunity to participate in reading and supervised discussions on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month. These special Care Kits will contain a copy of the first book for teens to read along with other fun supplies to encourage participation. Teens will be allowed to keep the copies of books that are distributed so that they may add to their own personal libraries.
The first book, which was specifically curated for the Teen Book Club is The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo. This story paints the portrait of a young girl in Harlem who discovers slam poetry as a way to understand her mother’s religion and her own relationship to the world.
