LoDa Art Walk

LoDa ArtWalk is a monthly event wherein the community is invited to come downtown and enjoy local art, artists, galleries, and other great venues. ArtWalk takes place every second Friday of the month from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Lower Dauphin (LoDa) Arts District. The event takes place through a partnership between the Mobile Arts Council and the City of Mobile Special Events.
During this event, Dauphin Street is shut down and the doors are open to local art galleries, institutions, studios and unique shops for the public to come inside to view beautiful artwork, sample delicious foods, and hear the music of Mobile. This FREE family-friendly event is a staple of Mobile's arts and culture. A map listing each ArtWalk happening can be located on the LoDa ArtWalk Facebook page and the Mobile Arts Council Facebook events.

6:30 pm: Holiday Card Writing Party
December 17, 2018 –
200 Government St, 4th Floor
Mobile, AL 36602
Rainbow Mobile proudly presents our first Holiday Card Writing Party for LGBTQ/HIV+ prisoners around the country. A member of our community, Ellen Boettcher, will be leading this local event alongside Rainbow Mobile. We have space for 15 volunteers at our conference room at the Fuse Factory. Please let us know if you are joining us!
This event is one of several that is happening around the country, created by Black and Pink. We are the only event in the entire state of Alabama as well! Time to make a difference and put Alabama on the map! Description of the event and history follows:
As you can imagine, the holiday season is often a really rough time for folks inside a prison. Whatever holidays you may or may not celebrate this time of year, our incarcerated members are often denied the ability to celebrate their traditions in the ways they choose, whether their desire be to celebrate the returning of light for Solstice, the miracle of Hanukkah, the birth story of Jesus, the tradition of Kwanzaa, New Year’s Day, or something else. All too often our members do not have family and friends to reach out to them with cards or visits, making this time particularly isolating. The cards you will make bring moments of joy, connection, and kindness to our members while telling prison staff that people on the outside are watching.
Last year, the Black and Pink community rallied together, hosting over three hundred holiday card parties across the US, and several other countries and they were able to send a card to each of our incarcerated Black & Pink members. This year, we have nearly 14,000 prisoners to write to! (http://www.blackandpink.org/holiday)
Lastly, but most importantly, the holiday card party we are organizing is about planting a seed of hope. There is strength in hope, and when we fight together, we can win. We do all of our work knowing that once there were no prisons, and that day will come again. We hope you will join us and register to host a holiday card party today!
See Black and Pink's website for more information about their organization: http://www.blackandpink.org/
